These veg hot dogs do not skimp on the flavor and taste incredibly good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This fusion recipe is a good mix of Indian street food flavors with the western hot dog idea!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-is-hot-dog\"   class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" ><strong>What is Hot Dog?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The hot dog is an extremely popular street food in the USA and is easily recognizable with its typical long bun meat sausage and sauces on top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its name came from a German species of dog called dachshund which is small and long in shape that resemble so much like a sausage when people from Germany migrated to the USA they also got their dachshund dogs with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This may have led to the popular name of Hot Dog simply by the visual reference of a hot sausage+a sausage-looking dog means Hot Dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-is-vegetarian-hot-dog-made-of\"   class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Vegetarian Hot Dog made of?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You must have had a lot of hot dog versions. The classic version is the sausage version which is an actual hot dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there are a lot of vegetarian hot dog versions made using hot dog buns and a lot of different veg fillings are filled in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today I am cooking a Desi chatpata Rajkot (A city in Gujarat, India) street-style hot dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this desi veg hot dog, I will be cooking a tangy potato filling, and special Rajkot green chutney (which is known as Gordhan chutney).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then assemble a hot dog in toasted buns with potato filling, chutney, tomato ketchup, crunchy onion, tomatoes, masala peanuts, and cheese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These veg dogs are tangy, sweet, spicy, and taste amazing with different textures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are perfect for summer BBQs. You can assemble them ahead of time and just pan cook them on a griller when you are ready to serve your crowd!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"what-makes-this-hot-dog-special\"   class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>What makes this hot dog special?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I would say Chutney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The unique taste of this recipe comes from the green chutney, known as Rajkots Gordhan Bhai Ni chutney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This special chutney is made with peanuts and green chilies along with lemon juice. Make sure to mash them completely after boiling and peeling them.<\/li><li><strong>Ginger and garlic paste<\/strong> &ndash; Make sure to use freshly made ginger garlic paste for better taste.<\/li><li><strong>Spices<\/strong> &ndash; We will need very basic spices like red chili powder, turmeric powder, salt, and garam masala.<\/li><li><strong>Oil <\/strong>&ndash; to cook the filling. You can use any oil.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For chutney<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Peanuts <\/strong>&ndash; use raw peanuts, not roasted ones.<\/li><li><strong>Green chilies<\/strong> &ndash; I have used green jalapenos. Use whatever chilies you have except thai chili. Make sure to use spicy verity.<\/li><li><strong>Lemon juice<\/strong> &ndash; Some people use citric acid (Limbu na Phool) to make this chutney. But I prefer lemon juice. Lemon juice not just gives the tangy taste but also helps in preventing chutney to go bad.<\/li><li><strong>Spices<\/strong> &ndash; Salt and turmeric powder. Turmeric powder is used to give bright colors.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other toppings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will also require finely chopped tomato, finely chopped onion, masala peanut, tomato ketchup, cheese, and butter. Keep this chutney aside. Add ginger-garlic paste and saut&eacute; for a few seconds. (image 7 and 8)<\/li><li>Now add spices (salt, chili powder, garam masala, and turmeric powder) and saute for 10 seconds. Add \u00bd cup of water and give it a quick stir. (image 9 and 10)<\/li><li>Then add mashed potatoes and mix everything well. Cook on a medium flame for about 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add butter.<\/li><li>Once butter is melted, toast the hot dog bun well from all the sides.<\/li><li>Take the toasted bun onto a working surface. On one side of the bun, apply chutney, tomato ketchup, a big spoon full of potato stuffing, some finely chopped onion, finely chopped tomatoes, some masala peanuts, and cheese. Take it out from the freezer the night before and assemble it with other ingredients and toast it on a griddle or in a Panini maker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"notes-pro-tips-and-quick-faqs\"   class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>Notes, Pro-tips, and quick FAQs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You can skip peanuts and cheese by just assembling the chutney and potato stuffing. It will taste good too. But I personally love it with peanuts and cheese as I have always eaten the hot dog with peanuts and cheese in Rajkot.<\/li><li>Here I want to mention that, some of you might think this is Dabeli made in hot dog buns. But it&rsquo;s not. The potato filling tastes way different than the dabeli filling. Plus I have not used sweet chutney, garlic chutney, sev, coconut, or pomegranate like we use in making Dabeli. J<\/li><li>The hot dog buns have to be fresh and avoid using stale buns. This is because it may crumble to pieces when it is vertically slit and while stuffing them.<\/li><li>Adjust spices according to your liking.<\/li><li>If you are short of time, you can use green chaat chutney instead of this Rajkot special chutney. But I highly recommend you to try this special chutney and not substitute it with regular chaat chutney. It makes a huge difference.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"schema-faq wp-block-yoast-faq-block\"><div class=\"schema-faq-section\" id=\"faq-question-1648865808530\"><strong class=\"schema-faq-question\">What to do with leftover potato filling?<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-faq-answer\">The potato filling is just so good. You can use it in filling parathas, sandwiches, wraps, or make aloo Tikki with it. I mean the use of this filling is just endless!<\/p> <\/div> <div class=\"schema-faq-section\" id=\"faq-question-1648865822447\"><strong class=\"schema-faq-question\">How to make it vegan?<\/strong> <p class=\"schema-faq-answer\">The stuffing and chutney are vegan by default. The only thing you need to replace is cheese and butter.
